ここで、原動機付ゴムボート『ゾディアック』に乗って付近の探訪に出かけることになった。

あざらしは人間を恐れない。
だが近づきすぎると吠えられる。
Seals have no fear of humans, but they bark at you when you get too close to them.
氷山の上に上陸し、あざらしと記念撮影。
氷山の氷でオンザロックを作り、乾杯。
Whisky on the ‘Antarctic’ Rock
航空燃料の積み下ろしが終わると、船は更に南極航海を続けた。
チリワインを飲みながら、優雅な食事。だが、信じられない事故が・・・。
夕食時、まさかの座礁事故。デッキに集まった人は顔面蒼白。
Suddenly, the ship ran aground.
Fortunately, she floated again, when the high tide came.
幸い、大事には至らなかった。飛び散った食器のあと片付け。
チリ海軍の軍艦がレスキューに来た。
Chilean Navy came to our rescue.
最後の寄港地、チリのマルシュ基地。
Chilean Marsh base, our last stop.
ここにはアデリーペンギンのコロニーがある。
Adelie penguins’ colony.
ペンギンは人を恐れない。
それどころか、むこうから近寄ってくる。
Penguins are curious to see you, they come closer to you by themselves.
アザラシのオスは、ペンギンの天敵。
Male seals often eat penguins alive.
最後に、デッキで記念撮影。
